Wongchhu Sherpa Memorial Primary Hospital

Established in 2022 A.D., wsmh.org is a well-equipped, 15-bedded hospital with 13 staffs, stands as a tribute to the late Mr. Wongchhu Sherpa and his vision of providing accessible and quality healthcare to the lower Everest region. He shared his vision with Dr. Luanne Freer (Everest ER), Dr. Eric Luther Johnson, and Late Dr. Paul Auerbach from Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) before passing away in 2015 A.D. Then, the Himalayan Yokpu Foundation took charge to bring his vision to life. Today, the hospital is providing quality services and is operating smoothly in public-private partnership model with the generous support of Wilderness Medical Society (fund raising partner) and other organizational and individual donors.

The hospital is providing following services;

  • General check-up
  • Inpatient service
  • X-ray service
  • USG service
  • Maternal care service
  • 24/7 Emergency service
  • Ambulance & transportation service
  • Laboratory and Counseling & consultation service
  • Thyroid Test service

Criteria for candidacy

  • The candidate should submit a valid certification (medical license) to the Wongchhu Sherpa Memorial Trust.The candidate should obtain a letter of acceptance from the local government or District Health Office with the assistance of the Wongchhu Sherpa Memorial Trust.
  • The candidate duration of volunteer at least 2 weeks.
  • The candidate should work under the guidance of doctor (Nepal Medical Council Registered) from Wongchhu Sherpa Memorial Primary Hospital, if he/she has NMC permission then can do solo practice.
  • The duration of NMC permission takes 6-7 months, if candidate are interested to volunteer for long duration (2-3 years)
  • The candidate should follow hospital rules and regulation.

    Clinical Rotations for volunteer health worker

    (The duration will depend upon the stay of the candidates)

    • Maternity Departments
    • Family Planning and Nutrition
    • Vaccination
    • IPD

    Extra-activities besides clinical rotation (Not mandatory)

    • Can work on hospital interior design
    • Work on plantation and infrastructures
    • Can conducted school and community health education programs
    • Can conducted training to hospital team

    To do for volunteering application

    • Candidate/doctors in training donate a minimum $250 and fully trained doctors donate a minimum $500/- (In word: USD Five Hundred Only) for the hospital through Wongchhu Sherpa Memorial trust.
